Volvo will recall 167,000 of its vehicles after discovering problems with the hatchback.
The voluntary recall includes 13,000 XC60 SUVs in the United Kingdom built in 2018 and 2019.
A spokesman told City A.M: "Volvo Cars' investigations revealed that the tailgate lift arms of XC60 models built between 2018 and 2019 could freeze under certain conditions in very cold weather.
"If this happens, it could result in noise or loss of function when using the liftgate, which could separate the lift arms from the liftgate."
"Volvo never compromises on safety. This is a voluntary reminder that we have made to prevent future problems, "added the company.
You can see if your vehicle has been recalled by entering your vehicle identification number on the Volvo website.
Anyone who thinks they have been affected should contact the manufacturer.
