Yaw Boabeng Asamoah, Director of Communications, Nuclear Power Plant
New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director Yaw Buaben Asamoah said the meeting with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to discuss political vigilance was heading in the right direction.
According to Mr. Asamoah, the electorate will expose any party that is trying to incite violence during any election in Ghana.
"Anyone who tries anything violent during an election in Ghana will be nothing. The élan of the electorate will expose you. We do not need violence to share our point of view, "he said.
He said they agreed on three key points as political parties to help ensure that the elections in Ghana are free from violence.
"No member of a political party should incite a group of people to cause chaos during elections. Any party that goes against this agreement will be dealt with by the security agencies, regardless of who is in power or to whom you belong.
"We believe that if we do that, it will help our security agencies to function better as they should," he told Accra-based Peace FM, under the supervision of Adomonline.com.
He thanked the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for her contribution to the success of the meeting.
"Peace is paramount for the governance of our president. We have all witnessed what happened in Dagbon, which clearly shows that he is a peacemaker. He did everything he could to get the NPP and the NDC to meet and discuss this issue when we were reluctant to get together as political parties. He appealed to the National Peace Council to help make our meeting possible, "he said.
The CNP, chaired by Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante was scheduled to meet the two main political parties – the NPP and the NDC – on Tuesday, 9 April 2019 to mediate political vigilance in the country.
The meeting followed a consensus between the NPP and the NDC to make the NPC the mediator of political vigilance that has become a major concern for national security.
