The Metropolitan Authority of Accra (AMA) sued the ministries of justice; Food and agriculture; and the Registrar General's Department for failure to comply with the registration notification to WADA-approved waste disposal companies badigned to their business lines.
Miss Linda Kumbuno, suing on behalf of WADA, told the Adjabeng District Court, chaired by Mr. Isaac Addo, that the institutions had not complied with the advice that had been given to them were served and refused to subscribe to the polluter pays principle to help eradicate the metropolis dirt.
She added that WADA had contracts with approved waste management companies to help manage this waste in the metropolis, and that 11 subcontractors have been accredited for this purpose.
She said that in the areas of the defendants, Jekora Ventures was responsible for collecting waste within ministries and surrounding areas.
In their response, representatives of the three state institutions explained that they were not able to comply with WADA guidelines at the time due to Previous two-year contractual agreements with other waste management companies.
They therefore urged the court to give them time to terminate their contract with previous service providers before engaging Jekora Ventures.
The Court then adjourned the case to August 28 of this year to allow the accused institutions to produce the previous contracts that they had made with these waste management companies.
Other institutions, including the Legal Aid Scheme, Ghana, which have also been dragged before the court, have pleaded with the court to comply with WADA's guidelines regarding the court case. registration, and were acquitted and released.
