WAEC holds WASSCE results of 26,434 students

The West African Review Council (WAEC) has selected the overall results of some 26,434 candidates pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of examination-related fraud detected during and after unfolding of the exam.

The Council, in a statement signed by Ms. Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, Head of Public Affairs of the Head of the National Office, announcing the release of the interim results for 2019, warned that the undisclosed results would be rescinded when they were found guilty , or published if otherwise.

The West African Examinations Council wishes to inform its many audiences that it has published the provisional results of candidates who have pbaded the South African Diploma Examination Examination for applicants to the school, 2019.

The Council will send the results to schools and applicants are invited to contact their school heads to get their results.

In the meantime, the Council hosted the results online and interested candidates can access their results on the Council's website.

The Council alerts members of the public, especially candidates, to be wary of impostors, who promise to change the results of the exam for a fee. Applicants should note that all WAEC results are secure and can be authenticated. People with counterfeit results will be exposed.

STATISTICS

In total, 316,999 candidates were enrolled in the examination. This figure is 9.6% higher than that of the 2017 application, which was 289,207. The 2019 figure was 158,550 (50.02%) men and 158,449 (49.98%) women. The examination was conducted in 946 participating schools.

A total of 1,378 registered candidates (0.43%) were absent from the examination.

The performance of the candidates in the four main subjects is as follows:

• English language 147,232 {46.79%) obtained A1-C6; 99,402 (31.60%)
obtained D7-E8 while 68,002 (21.61%) had F9;

• Mathematics (Core): 120,519 (38.33%) obtained A1-C6; 94,607 (30.09%)
obtained D7-E8 while 99,275 (31.58%) had F9;

• Integrated Science: 158,691 (50.52%) achieved A1-C6; 109,069 (34.72%)
obtained D7-E8 while 46,367 (14.76%) had F9;

• Social Studies: 230,141 (73.27%) obtained A1-C6; 46,464 (14.79%) obtained D7-E8 while 37,494 (11.94%) obtained. Based on preliminary results, the performance of Al-C6 in social studies showed a marked improvement over that of 2017 (52.25% to 73.27%), while Integrated Science recorded a slight improvement (43.66% to 50.52%).

On the contrary, Mathematics (Core) recorded a drop in performance compared to 2017 (42.73% to 38.33%). Similarly, performance in the English language fell (from 54.06% to 46.79%).

MALPRACTICE

The full results of 26,434 candidates were leaked pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of negligence in the examination detected during and after the course of the examination.

The results retained by the candidates will be canceled if they are found guilty or disclosed in the opposite case.

CONCLUSION

The Board wishes to express its deep gratitude to all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Authority, supervisors, supervisors, the Ghana Police, examiners and all those who, in various ways, have contributed to the smooth running of the review and the publication of results.
