“WandaVision” star Elizabeth Olsen gave us a playlist to help us prepare for the Disney + series almost five years ago – we just didn’t know it yet.
“I’m about to teach you the story of my Marvel character, the Scarlet Witch,” Olsen says in a video shot for an Allure cover story in 2016. She then gives a brief overview of some of the stories from key comics that clearly inspired elements of “WandaVision”.
Tracing back to her character’s first appearance and her origins as a villain, she walks through the comic book milestones of Scarlet Witch, including meeting the Vision, falling in love, getting married, and doing all the “things in love with” dove that occur between a mutant and the android of his dreams.
This includes unleashing one’s own “Immaculate Marvel Conception” using magic and giving birth to twins.
While holding a hexagon-shaped prop, Olsen mentions that Wanda Maximoff’s powers include the ability to create “reality-disrupting chaos.” Helpfully listing specific comic book series, she also goes over the various tragedies that led to the Scarlet Witch’s mental breakdown. She even checks the name of Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, whom she will join in the upcoming “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.
Of course, like most titles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “WandaVision” is not a direct adaptation of a specific comic book storyline. And the show’s most recent revelation that Agatha has always been a secret player in Wanda’s sitcom world makes it clear that “WandaVision” still has a lot of twists and turns to work out in its two remaining episodes.
But for those obsessed with finding more clues as to where the series might go, the books Olsen lists in the video might be a good place to start.
