Torrential rains are raging in northern Mozambique following hurricane Kenneth, while aid groups warn of possible floods and landslides in the coming days.

At least four deaths have been reported. Mozambican relief authorities said one person was killed in Pemba and another in Macomia district, while residents of the island of Ibo had killed two people.

Hurricane Kenneth arrived late Thursday night, just six weeks after Hurricane Idai hit central Mozambique, killing more than 600 people.

Humanitarian organizations warned that the floods remained a danger after Kenneth, just as the floods caused most deaths after Idai.

The Red Cross Federation reports significant damage in Cabo Delgado province, Mozambique's northernmost province, with Macomia, Quissanga and Mocimboa da Praia communities of greatest concern.

Communications remain difficult.
