Imagine being sent on a perilous journey into distant space … without a way out. This terrifying scenario is real for the characters of High life, A new sci-fi thriller that takes a scary sensuality on humans leaving the Earth.
Wednesday, A24 released the first High life trailer on YouTube. The film follows Monte and his granddaughter, the last survivors of a failed spaceship that was heading for a black hole. The film, which will feature Robert Pattinson, André Benjamin and Juliette Binoche, will be in theaters on April 12.
It's hard not to miss the soundtrack of the trailer: it's a disturbing mix of countdown, someone who says "da da" and a crying baby. On the ship, Monte (Pattinson) and her granddaughter are initially joined by death row inmates and a sinister doctor (Binoche), who treat everyone as a human experience.
"We are scum. Trash can. Refuse that it does not fit into the system, "says Pattinson in the trailer. "Until someone has the bright idea to retrain us in the service of science."
There is however a disturbing rebound: the scientist bonkers and the rest of the crew disappear aboard the ship. Before Monte and his little daughter are left alone, video footage reveals the disaster: sensual conversation, high-tech laboratory and doodles on a wall lead to this horrific discovery. No other index is provided.
Will Monte and his daughter succeed? Or will they become victims of deep space? Claire Denis, High Life's director, takes viewers for a crazy black ride that blurs the boundaries between humanity and science in this scary film.
