Andre Gray scored his first league goal since September
Watford resisted Everton's latest pressure to win a tough victory against his former manager Marco Silva.
There was a lot of promise that Silva would return to Vicarage Road for the first time, but neither team managed to take control of the game.
The half-time substitute, Andre Gray, scored the only goal of the game halfway through the second half when he scored Will Hughes' low center-center as a result of A superb pbad on the fly from Craig Cathcart.
In a rather docile affair, the spirits quieted down after the final whistle when Kurt Zouma received two yellow cards for dissent.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had previously been vigilant in keeping Etienne Capoue and Gerard Deulofeu, while Ben Foster was saving well to prevent Cenk Tosun.
And although the Toffees made two noises in the second half – thanks to Gylfi Sigurdsson's clever film and Lucas Digne's free kick – they did not apply any real pressure before the shutdown.
Substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin twice should have done better with the headers, but the Hornets deserve credit for the way they defended.
The result gives Everton a third consecutive loss in the Premier League, which keeps him in ninth place, while Watford remains four points behind the Toffees in eighth place.

The unfortunate return of Silva
Saturday marked Silva's first return to Vicarage Road since his dismissal by the Hornets at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
And although Everton's boss had the last word in December, when his former club was denied three points at Goodison Park by the equalizing goal in the 96th minute of Digne, he certainly did not do that. time.
His team was dull all along and could have stayed back in the first moments when Pickford made a good save with his head to keep Etienne Capoue at close range.
Deulofeu also saw a good opportunity blocked in the first period. Despite their best efforts, the Hornets' first game came in the 65th minute when Gray, who replaced Ken Sema at halftime, scored only his fourth goal of the season in the league.
Previously, the hosts had a bit of luck early in the second period when Sigurdsson's tricky lob hit the crossbar as a result of a scramble in the penalty area.
They still had their chance as the match ended when Digne nearly equalized another late equalizer, but the woodwork was brought to the rescue of Watford.
However, the players of Javi Gracia deserved their victory, which will undoubtedly bring them a lot of fun at the expense of Silva and Everton.
Everton's struggles continue
At his pre-game press conference, Silva said that Troy Deeney's derogatory comments at a midweek supporters forum event may have motivated his players.
This did not seem to be the case at Vicarage Road, however, as his team struggled to settle in the first half and could have fallen behind on more than one occasion if it had not been possible. summer of Pickford.
Cenk Tosun, who returned to the starting lineup alongside Sigurdsson and Richarlison, had two half-chances in the opening minutes, but did not seriously disrupt the Hornets' goal.
And Silva's team did not do much better in the second period as Richarlison, who was playing against his former club, was having trouble making an impact. He was replaced the next hour and Sigurdsson, incredibly quiet, was hung soon after.
The Toffees improved after the introduction of Bernard, the skilled Brazilian having managed to break through the lines and move where Richarlison had failed, but despite all his efforts, he could not find an equalizer.
The loss means that Everton have now lost three consecutive league games for the first time since January 2018 and that pressure is mounting on Silva.
