Representatives for Wayne Rooney have contacted police over what they believe to be an illicit attempt to trick the Derby boss with a series of explicit photographs.

The images went viral on social media on Sunday, appearing to show the former Manchester United and England player asleep in a hotel room surrounded by a group of young women.

Wayne Rooney says he won’t quit his Derby job, though he admits he’s unsure which players he’ll have available for the start of the season

There is no suggestion that Rooney acted inappropriately, or even that he was aware of what was going on around him.

Relatives of Rooney have confirmed to Sky Sports News that the case has now been turned over to Greater Manchester Police, who have yet to comment.

Rooney is set to begin his first full season at the helm of Derby, having narrowly held them in the league last season, after taking over from Phillip Cocu.

However, he warned he couldn’t field a team unless the club made some important signings.

Derby currently has only nine registered senior players, including two goalkeepers.
