Wayne Rooney names the man who should become Manchester United's manager – and this is not Solskjaer

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes his former club should "do everything" for Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Argentina was closely tied to the crisis last month after Jose Mourinho was sacked, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed interim leader until the end of the season.

United has won six matches with Solskjaer and many have asked him to be appointed permanent.

Pochettino is now the big favorite to be in charge of the first game of the 2019/20 season after such an impressive start. Pochettino can be supported at 11/4 with Sky Bet to let Spurs head north.

Rooney thinks the boss of Tottenham is the ideal man for this post and has explained exactly why the Red Devils should act for him.

"First of all, you have to give Ole an opportunity and it's a discussion to be held with the Glazers," he told ESPN FC in an exclusive interview. "But if I had the opportunity to name someone, I would do everything for Pochettino.

"I think Manchester United – certainly over the last 20 or 30 years since Alex Ferguson – has been based on young players, young players, who are pushing the players forward.

"I think [Pochettino] makes the most of his players, whether they are young or older.

"You see some of the young players that he brought to Tottenham, Southampton and who then played for the national team, so I think he checks all the boxes in terms of quality his coach, but also his willingness to give young people a chance. "
