Rooney has doubled and also thinks that the Solskjaer team will not be competing for the Premier League title next season.

S addressing Sportsweek on BBC Radio 5 Live, the former England captain said: "The first thing to do in Ole is to build the team and I do not think that bringing one or two players for 100 million pounds will help the players already present.

"It's better for Ole to spend between £ 30m and £ 40m for potential players and build the team around five or six players.

"You can bring players to Ronaldo, Messi, Ramos or Bale, but it will cost you £ 350 million, you'll get two years and you'll lose that money."

The four players suggested by Rooney have won many trophies and awards, which justifies their place among the best in the world. Still, the scorer in England's history believes that Solskjaer should target younger players rather than well-established and expensive stars.

Welsh striker Gareth Bale has already been transferred to United this summer and Rooney is expecting a "tricky" transfer window for the Red Devils bosses.

Rooney thinks United should give Solskjaer time to rebuild the team and train the young players they seem to be aiming for. He said: "The club needs to rebuild with younger players, but they have to be pretty good and I think fans will understand that they are probably not going to be fighting for the Premier League next year.

"Let Ole have the time to form a team for the next two or three years, which will face the Premier League and the Champions League.

"These are teams like United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham and probably Everton in the next two years to reach the Liverpool and Manchester City level."
