NAPO Headache Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), Minister of Education

Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh alluded to a plan to cancel all community day project contracts for high schools that have not yet begun.

He told Parliament Wednesday that such projects would be budgeted for later.

"With regard to the availability of funds, the department gives priority to the completion of this work as needed. Contracts that have not started yet will be closed and budgeted for later, "he added.

According to him, an evaluation of the projects carried out by the Ministry of Education revealed that some of the community day secondary schools are under construction while others have been abandoned.
Answering questions on the floor of Parliament, Prempeh said 21 new community day high schools have been completed since 2017.

"The evaluation showed that some projects were in progress and some had been stopped and others had not even started yet. We also evaluated the impact of these projects in certain areas. Access to school sites can be difficult because of the distance to the nearest communities, "he told MPs.

"Mahama will build 200 SHS during the community day."

Former President Mahama, during the 2012 election campaign, had pledged to build 200 new SHS a day in underserved communities of the country, in order to solve the problem of access to the city. education in the country.

The first school, located in Ekumfi Otuam in the Central Region, was inaugurated in 2015 by former President John Mahama and was named in honor of deceased President John Atta-Mills, a native of the region.

"200 schools not completed"

The Mahama administration has not yet completed the 200 high schools before the end of 2016.

The Mahama administration was able to complete about 46 schools before leaving office.
