We are not magicians, tell us the whole truth – Witness Committee

The 3-member committee investigating the unrest at Ejura in the Ashanti region urged witnesses appearing before it to be frank in their account.

The committee said it could not speculate or concoct stories to write its report, and therefore rely on full and accurate witness accounts to enable it to do a good job.

“We know everyone wants the truth to come out … but if you appear before the committee and decide to only say certain things that you want to say without saying everything, sitting here, we [the committee members] are not magicians, ”said Judge George Kingsley Koomson, chairman of the committee.

“I will be pleading with all the witnesses who appear before us; just say it as it is, because there is no point in trying to speculate on some evidence or to leave some unspoken, ”he added.

Mohammed Nafiu, a cousin of Ibrahim Mohammed also known as Macho Kaaka who was killed by strangers while testifying before the committee on Monday, July 12, 2021, did not tell the committee that he was on the places chaos in the region, although a video presented by the journalist of Joy FM showed him present.

Judge Koomson, who noticed this, said the witness and everyone else who appears before the committee should not withhold any information they have about the incident, as the committee’s job is not to prosecute or to charge anyone.

“If you don’t help us, the justice you demand, the truth you want to be told to you, we cannot fabricate it. Everyone has their opinion and their stories to tell. It is our job to synchronize all of this evidence to come to a conclusion and make recommendations, but if those who were present are unwilling to let us know exactly what happened, then all the evidence becomes speculative, ” did he declare.

“No one charges anyone or causes anyone to be arrested. All we are required to do is listen to the people. The evidence they bring will help us to draw conclusions and make recommendations, ”he added.
