The ministry said that, contrary to reports of poor work done in the first phase of the project, they were impressed by the work they have done so far.

According to Mavis Hawa Koomson, the implementation of any government program will come up against some difficulties. However, the government is about to complete the 560 dams promised to northern residents by the end of 2020.

The government is currently building 300 out of 560 canoes in the north of the country to ensure a farming operation all year round at a cost of 250,000 GHC per canoe.

In the Far East, 83 of the 150 dug ponds are under construction and are at various stages of completion, but have faced challenges.

Addressing Citi News in Meyogo, Tempane District, Upper East East Region, after a visit to the underground shelter sites, Mavis Koomson said that the first phase of dam construction had been completed. satisfactory.

"The construction of these canoes is underway; and we are at about 80% to 90%. Spillways, embankments and pastures, among others, will total between 15% and 20%, which represents 100% of the project we wish to carry out ", she says.

"We saw the first phase of the projects. There was a lot of water in most dams, but others did not have them because of the rainfall (unreliable). I am satisfied with the work that has been done so far and when all the underground reservoirs of the land dam are completed, everyone will realize that this is something that needs to be done. So I'm happy for the moment, even if it's not over. "

She noted that the late payment of contractors working on the projects explained their late completion.

"These entrepreneurs did not receive their money. The ministry does not give the mobilization, the contractors will do the work and when we are satisfied, they then raise certificates for payment. she clarified.

"Some have not even received pesewa yet, even if the money is 250 000 GHC and that 's why the work on these canoes are late and most of them expect their payment to continue with the rest of the phases. "

Mavis Koomson, however, declined to comment on the challenges facing the shelter construction, but said that its holding, as well as the consultants and contractors running the projects, will solve the problems facing the project.

She further indicated that a committee will soon be formed to develop and implement safety measures around the canoes.

Some beneficiary communities such as Denegu, Yabrago and Meyogo in Garu and Tempane districts respectively commended the government for its intervention.
