We do not need a new register of voters – Asiedu Nketia clarifies the position of NDC | Policy

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), party of the opposition during the week, has engaged in a standoff with the electoral commission over a point raised in a statement issued by the latter.

In its communiqué, the Commission indicated that IPAC had concluded a new register of voters after "exhaustive deliberation".

However, the NDC condemned the EC for misleading the public because, in their view, the question of a new voters' register had not been discussed in depth. Their position was supported by the other parties that attended the meeting.

This subsequently led to a dispute between Dr Bossman Asare, Vice-President of the EC and Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Electoral Officer for the NDC. click to read

Speaking further on this issue, on Joy Newsfile NDC Secretary General Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said Saturday that even though the issue of a new voters register is a topic to be debated, there is actually no need for a new one.

"This is a subject we all need to debate, but in my opinion, a new voters register is no longer necessary, why do we need a new register? … Our practice has been to replace the new register. every ten years, "he said.
