PDS denied claiming to have breached its financial obligations to PPIs
The director of public relations energy distribution service (PDS), William Boateng, has refuted claims that the service owes huge sums to independent power producers for their power.
In an interview with Joy FM, William Boateng also denied allegations that PDS failed to meet its financial obligations to the PPI since it took over the company's electricity distribution. Electricity from Ghana in March 2019.
Mr Boateng was refuting the threats of the Chamber of Independent Power Producers and Consumers (CIPDIB) to plunge Ghana into the dark if a $ 700 million debt from its members would was not paid within eight days.
Eliplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, Director General of CIPDIB, explained that the decision to cut PDS's food had been made necessary by debts incurred in the course of its activities.
These operations, he said, include refueling, maintaining their factories and paying workers.
In a statement, CIPDIB said: "If PDS did not comply with the terms of the APP and did not pay PPIs within 7 days, our members would have no choice but to close their plants because they could not continue to be in debt with huge debts. This action, although it has huge implications for employment, can not be avoided. "
ECG paid PPIs weekly for consumer-generated income. But that stopped when PDS took power in March 2019.
Attempts to recover these debts were thwarted by PDS. They also failed to respond to their letters of request or meeting invitations to discuss outstanding payments.
The solution, Mr. Apetorgbor, threatened to stop supplying the PDS with its 1,500 megawatts of energy, which is more than 50% of what is needed to meet consumer demand.
However, the power distribution service is challenging these claims.
William Boateng said that the PDS had no contract with independent power producers. They are not required to respond to correspondents or to pay them.
"Mr. Apetorgbor is deceived there," Boateng said Monday in the SMS, explaining that Mr. Boateng said that PDS had signed a contract with ECG and had not reneged on it yet. .
"We have honored all our concessional obligations towards ECG. ECG gives us wholesale invoices and we pay every week, "he said.
William Boateng led the PPIs to the ECG, the body that could have an agreement with them.
