Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Hon. Sam George says the national security lockdown of the LGBTQ + office is in accordance with Ghanaian laws.
National security personnel shut down a newly established LGBTQ office in the Greater Accra region on Wednesday after continued pressure on President Akufo Addo.
“I believe this action was in accordance with the laws of the land. And I think it was even late. I actually wanted to see more action.
“We will not allow anyone to bring ‘trumu trumu’ (LGBTQ +) or love to animals to this country and tell us that is a right. It is not a right, it is a mental disorder and it is a crime under our laws. Our laws say it’s illegal, you have no right. ”
Speaking on GHTODAY on Thursday morning, lawmakers said section 104 (1) a, b and c of the penal code is clear on LGBTQI crime.
According to him, according to the laws of Ghana, the promotion and advocacy of LGBTQ + are also criminal.
“They are advocating for what they claim to be gay rights in Ghana. Homosexuality is a crime in Ghana, so what you claim to be a right is not a right, rights are justiciable, ”he said.
He further explained that laws which grant rights to Ghanaians are not applicable in foreign countries and therefore LGBTQI cannot be a right in Ghana.
He ruled that Ghana should have served a 48-hour eviction notice on ambassadors who allegedly attended the opening of the LGBTQI + Rights Ghana office.
“… Because their credentials submitted to HE President Akufo-Addo when they have been appointed by their respective countries to come and serve in Ghana oblige them to abide by the laws of Ghana. And so, if you come as an ambassador from any country, if you have perverted the cultures, traditions and customs of your country and it is normal for your country, it is normal for men to sleep with dogs and women sleep with cats, you can’t come to our country and tell us that even if our laws disapprove of it, we should do whatever you want, we should have sent a notice letter of deportation to these ambassadors to serve a notice. ”
