Listen, I may be a beginner in the myths of DC and DCEU, but I like to think that I'm pretty much in tune with what Twitter wants from these movies. Some people want more Superman, or a Justice League Two, or the Snyder cup. I am really looking for a Wonder Woman spin-off centered on Etta, Sameer, Charlie and Chief. But apparently, the leaders of DC have heard our calls and have decided to give the green light to a spin-off centered on the trench monsters of Aquaman.
Yes, you read it well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, we get a spin-off of Trench Monsters, The movie will be centered on the realm of the trench, which had been cut off from Atlantis during the sinking, and the locals turned into voracious monsters who tried to devour our heroes. The film is not supposed to include any character from Aquamansave the trench monsters, so unfortunately, it will not be Nicole Kidman's Atlanna fighting monsters and surviving alone.
If you are reading this and wondering "why the trench monsters", then you are out of luck. I can not explain DC's current line of thinking. I understand wanting to capitalize on Aquaman"Success, but the trench monsters seem to be a weird way to do it.Why not a film focused on Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II)? It was one of the strongest elements of the film and Abdul- Mateen was outstanding in the role, let him have a chance to shine and use it as a way to introduce Kaldur's introduction to the DCEU.
If you want an aqua-film not present, why not learn more about the fall of Atlantis? Or something involving the Atlantean war with the Amazons? Connecting the two biggest names in DC could be a great way to attract the bad. It would feature Connie Nielson and Robin Wright in the roles Hippolyta and Antiope, which is always an advantage.
DC has several projects in development, but many of them seem lost in production even if they have a director, a screenwriter or, in some cases, a casting. Rather than announcing that they are developing a project, it might be better to focus some of these projects at the production stage, rather than announce everything from the New Gods to Black Adam, and then let them float in. a strange void.
I understand that DC may want more autonomous spin-offs, but I also do not see how beneficial it would be for the CUSD as a whole. Rather than straighten the ship with an excellent Steel man 2or working on the Flash or Cyborg solo movies, they are focusing on perhaps the most bizarre spin-off they could make. Maybe there is a method here, but for now, it seems to focus on the strangest part of the film to try to capitalize on Aquaman 's success.
We do not know yet when the movie will fall in the agenda of DC. I want to believe that the franchise can right the situation itself, but this decision makes me wonder if DC actually has a plan or idea of what it wants to do, or if it just throws objects at a wall to see what's left in place.
