Accra-based Peace FM morning show host Kwami Sefa Kayi advised his media colleagues to learn to accept criticism.
Speaking on JoyNews PM Express Personality Profile On Friday, the host of ‘Kokrokoo’ was surprised at the attitude of journalists in particular, the youngest.
He lamented the growing wave of aversion to criticism among journalists across the country.
“I think we’ve become very opinionated, which is good in a certain breath, but sometimes we think we know everything. I have noticed that many of us journalists and media professionals do not like to be criticized.
“We think we know everything and we think that at the moment we have an opinion which should be the dominant opinion,” he told host Ayisha Ibrahim.
According to him, the press plays a vital role in the governance of the country, however, journalists must learn to live with criticism when they are wrong.
“We can’t be right all the time. We should learn to be able to accept that if we criticize others, others will criticize us.
“Just because we are the fourth estate in the realm, just watching the Guardian does not mean that we will always be successful. So we should also be able to take criticism, ”he said.
However, Mr. Kayi was against verbal and physical abuse of journalists.
In his opinion, “If you don’t agree with my opinions, beat me with a superior argument. Do not beat me with threats and insults ”.
