The police said that he would need more than 10 4X4 vehicles to be able to work effectively
The Northern Region Police Command is demanding powerful four-wheel drive vehicles to help them fight the crime committed by the patrol in remote areas of the region.
This call comes in the wake of new clashes in Chereponi, where one of them died and several others injured as a result of the confrontation between Anufus and Kokombas.
The police said they would need more than 10 4X4 vehicles to patrol the remote areas of Chereponi, which is a very large area.
DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, Northern Region Public Relations Officer, made the call in an interview with Yen Sempa of Onua FM, hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa on Monday.
DSP Tanko explained exactly what caused the new confrontation, which also resulted in the destruction of several houses.
The violence allegedly began on Friday night when unknown attackers opened fire on Nawieku, a community in Chokosi in the district, injuring one person.
The next day, 75 soldiers and 40 policemen were deployed to the area after reports of a possible retaliatory attack.
DSP Tanko said the police had been recruited in Tamale, Bawku and other parts of the northern region "but we need robust 4 × 4 vehicles as they can go where smaller vehicles can not go ".
He added: "If we can have ten or more because the place is very big and the vehicles we have available can not move to certain places".
