A section of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth base in the Ashanti region said the party needed a new standard bearer whose goal is to build a “formidable” party ahead of the elections. 2024.

In a press release, a group calling themselves NDC Ashanti Youth said defeated 2020 NDC flag bearer John Mahama was no longer fit to lead the party because “he neglected us when he had the to be able to”.

The group said Mahama paid little attention to the Ashanti region when forming his cabinet and gave priority to other regions.

“How is it that only the metropolis of Tamale has had three ministers while the largest region of the country, Ashanti has been neglected?”

“In fact, at the start of the administration, there was only one minister of the Ashanti region – the Minister of Environmental Science and Technology, Professor Oteng Agyei – who was bitterly sacked and mysteriously just a few months after the start of the administration, “said a statement from the group and signed by President Kweku Asare Mensah said.

Below is the full unedited statement:

The youth of the NDC Ashanti have strongly attacked former President Mahama for what they describe as a campaign of captions to be re-elected as the NDC flag bearer.

The first concern in the absolute abandonment of the region between 2013 and 2016.
John Mahama is expected to hit the region on September 13 with his thank you tour, but the youth of the party are sending the signal that they are fed up with him.

Between 2013 and 2017, John Mahama neglected the Ashanti region and therefore had no one from the region among his ministers until the appointment of the Honorable Kweku Agyemang Manu in 2015.

How come John Mahama appointed 5 cabinet ministers from the central region in addition to having the vice president from the same region.
How is it that there are also 5 cabinet ministers from the Eastern region in addition to the chief of staff?

How come only Tamale metropolis had 3 cabinet ministers while the country’s largest region, Ashanti was overlooked

In fact, at the start of the administration, there was only one minister of the Ashanti region, the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Professor Oteng Agyei, who was bitterly sacked and mysteriously just a few months after entering the administration.

John Mahama, who could have neglected the Ashanti region so much, now claims to be the lover just to cheat on us and neglect the region again.

Our message to him is simple.

He shouldn’t be counting on us because he neglected us when he had power.
The NDC needs a new leadership direction, a leader who is there to build a more formidable party and not just for his own personal good.
