A representative sample of the youth of Busunu in West Gonja Municipality rejected sacks of rice sent to them by Damongo Constituency MP Samuel Abu Jinapor for the celebration of Eid-Ul-Adha festivities .
They not only refused the gift, but also chased people away amid songs of rejection.
Young people who were identified as supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) said they needed jobs from the MP, not food.
Talk to JoyNews some residents reported that some of the bags of rice that had previously been unloaded in some households in the community were quickly mobilized and returned to the car.
As if the squad explosion wasn’t enough, the youngsters led by a teacher, Gbelo, booed the squad before ordering them to leave the community.
“The era of promises and failures of politicians and political parties in Busunu is over,” the youth said.
“We did not ask you to give us rice, you promised us jobs and not rice and we went beyond rice,” chanted the young people.
JoyNews sources in Busunu further indicated that the young people who defended the law are angry NPP supporters who feel betrayed by their lawmakers for neglecting them while giving jobs to opposition supporters.
The sources further noted that before this latest outrage, the youths had expressed their anger during a demonstration in Damongo when the deputy’s office was commissioned.
