Bono Regional Minister Justina Owusu-Banahene called on the Regional Peace Council to step up efforts to devise realistic strategies to resolve protracted chiefdom conflicts in the region.
“We must work together to identify and combat the remote causes of long-standing chiefdom conflicts that threaten the peace of the region,” she said.
Such disputes, she said, are delaying progress and called for effective collaboration between the Regional Security Council, the Peace Council and the Regional House of Chiefs to iron out any misunderstandings.
Ms. Owusu-Banahene said so when the Regional Peace Council paid her a courtesy visit in Sunyani.
She said peace remains a prerequisite for development and urged stakeholders to take preventive measures to curb it, rather than allowing disputes to spark conflict and violence that have impacted socio-economic growth. economy of the region.
Issues such as land disputes have enormous potential to disrupt the peace, the minister said, and called for collaboration with the Land Commission to help resolve land disputes.
She assured the Peace Council of her availability and commitment to support it in all its activities.
Bono Regional Peace Council Executive Secretary Suallah Abdalah Quandah briefed the regional minister on the Council’s activities and hoped the Regional Coordinating Council would support his office in resolving potential conflicts that threatened the peace in the region.
