President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
The Federation of Ghana's Organizations for People with Disabilities is not satisfied with President Akufo Addo's recent remarks regarding the fulfillment of the government's promises.
At the last NPP rally before the by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, the government held forty-one of the promises it had made to Ghanaians, adding that only the blind and the deaf people would ignore these promises.
"Forty-one promises made by the NPP and its presidential candidates in the next two years have already been delivered, and have been fulfilled as we speak." We have come to repair Ghana. These two years, only the blind or deaf blind who are not aware that we have actually done something. "
However, Ayisshietu Ibrahim, president of the Blind Union of Ghana (Citi News), said that even though they acknowledge the government's efforts in various fields, such comments could hamper efforts to put in place end the stigmatization of people with disabilities.
"We are not satisfied with the comments. We always know if developments are happening or not, despite the fact that we are blind or deaf. When we walk on roads, we can know if they are paved or not. We know it's a political metaphor, but the president could have used so many words. "
"We do not want excuses; we simply want to invite him to be better written in his speeches than to use blind and deaf people. It's not just the president, but all the other politicians to make people see people with disabilities differently. We are doing our best to educate them, otherwise it will hinder our outreach efforts, she added.
Only the blind and the deaf ignore the promises held by nuclear power stations – Nana Addo
President Nana Akufo-Addo praised the achievements of her government, saying that he and his team have managed to keep 41 campaign promises over the past two years.
These included the free high school program, the interoperability of mobile money, the digital addressing system, the supposed stabilization of the cedi, the national identity card system, the reinstatement of nursing internships, among others.
But many of the promises, projects, policies and laws cited by the government have simply been launched or are in various stages of implementation.
For example, while the government claims to have kept the promise to create six new regions, the process has just pbaded the referendum phase in December 2018.
