The Oti Movement Joint Consultative Council is committed to accepting any city, which Nana Addo Dankwa President Akufo-Addo chooses as the capital of the Oti region.
Already, the JCC, which is composed of leaders, opinion leaders and youth leaders from the northern Volta region, had submitted a memorandum to the president suggesting that some cities be considered the regional capital.
At a meeting with the Minister of Regional Reorganization and Development, Mr. Dan Botwe, at his office in Accra last Friday, the group said it would fully respect the president's choice.
The meeting discussed the referendum which overwhelmingly endorsed the creation of the region and the way forward.
The Krachiwura, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, President of the JCC, led the council members at the meeting.
Other members included Nana Owusu Afari, coordinator; Mr. Daniel Owusu-Afari, Secretary; Nana Boakye Mensah, Vice President; Nana Odam Siaw V, Chief of Nsuta Buem and Nana Diawuo Bediako, Deputy Finance Secretary.
Hajia Saudata Ibrahim, Vice President of Advertising, Nana Obomba Sewura Lupuwura II of Nkwanta, Nana Obrempong Kanya II of Krachi Nchumuru and Dr. Inusah Abdul-Nasiru, also of Krachi Nchumuru.
Propagation development
All JCC members who spoke at the meeting thanked the people of the Oti region for coming out in large numbers to approve the creation of the region.
They said the issue of the regional capital would not divide them in any way.
They expressed hope, however, that development would be spread throughout the region rather than concentrated in the capital.
Nana Besemuna said that she appreciated the government's efforts to get the best for the Oti region when "this one is finally created."
Therefore, he said, they would continue to support the government to develop the region.
Minister grateful
Botwe thanked the CCC for its positive role in the process of creating the region.
"You have behaved peacefully," he said, congratulating them on the victory won in the referendum.
He also welcomed their decision to accept the choice of the president of the regional capital.
The minister said the president was in consultation with relevant stakeholders for the selection of regional capitals.
He said that various cities have been recommended to be considered the capital.
Mr Botwe asked the people to deepen the dialogue in order to take a peaceful decision.
