Interim IGP, James Oppong Boanuh
James Oppong Boanuh, of IGP, said that he will spare no effort to bring the culprits who shot dead a policewoman in Tamale.
The officer was shot by suspected armed robbers at a checkpoint in Malshegu, Sagnarigu Municipality, Northern Region. She was one of three officers stationed at a checkpoint near a gas station on Tuesday night.
The police service has announced a reward of 10,000 Swedish kroner for those providing information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
Speaking at the home of the deceased's family, the interim IGP said the service would not back down to get to the bottom of things.
"I am here this morning to represent the police administration as well as all Ghanaian police personnel. My goal is to bring these high-powered officers to show not only to the family or the people of Tamale, but also to the entire nation. In Ghana, we described this incident as very serious, "said IGP.
Oppong Boanuh also said that his visit to Tamale was also aimed at sympathizing with police personnel who lost his colleague. "I am here above all to be compbadionate to the family members and staff who have lost their colleague," he added. "To officers or colleagues of the staff and family officer, what I will say is that we will not live tirelessly."
The spokesman of the deceased's family, Jacob Mark, appealed to the PGI and the police administration to speed up investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also called on the police administration to support the three children that the deceased left behind.
"The deceased has three children, their education is important, I do not know the policy put in place by the police for these children," said the spokesman.
He also said that family members would meet to decide the burial date and communicate to the GPS.
