New supporters of the Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta region have rejected the alleged reappointment of Dr Archibald Letsa as regional minister for the Volta.
Although the Volta NPP Grassroots for Justice group has not indicated its reasons for opposing the appointment, it maintains that it will not accept his appointment.
“Information is reaching the Volta nuclear power plant base that the president intends to re-appoint Dr Archibald Yao Letsa as regional minister for the Volta.
“We wish to unequivocally state that we, the party base (supporters) in the region, will not accept the nomination,” the statement said.
In order to register their protest, the group will launch on January 25 in a procession and a demonstration on the scheduled date.
The protest will start from the Metro Mass (Sokode Lokoe) court to the regional police headquarters, then proceed to the civic center and end at the regional party office.
Again, supporters of the Volta NPP have indicated that they will petition the President through the party’s regional executives.
Meanwhile, presidential communications director Eugene Arhin released details of the president’s ministerial appointments for his second term.
According to the statement, the total number of ministers appointed by the president will not exceed 85.
This follows several calls from Ghanaians and the NDC Caucus that the number of appointed ministers be reduced to around 70.
In addition, President Akufo-Addo announced his administrative staff and other key individuals to help him pursue his agenda and tenure for the next four years.
Acting chief of staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare retains his post alongside Nana Bediatuo Asante who was secretary to the president during his first term according to a press release from the presidency.
