President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said her government is preparing the country to realize Ghana's vision beyond aid over the next decade.
He said the policies and programs implemented by the government were aimed at creating an autonomous economy without external support.
He is optimistic that this vision will be realized in the next ten years.
President Akufo-Addo said this when World Bank Vice President Dr. Hafez Ghanem convened it yesterday at the Jubilee House in Accra as part of his three-day working visit to the country. country.
Ghanem is expected to hold meetings with senior government officials on ways in which the bank can help Ghana use its excess gas reserves to develop other sectors of the economy.
There will also be discussions about the need to develop a digital economy and the relevant decisions needed to build such an economy.
President Akufo-Addo said that Ghana, with a population of 30 million inhabitants and considerable natural resources, could develop an autonomous economy without outside help.
"We want to have an economy that will significantly reduce our reliance on external funding from international donor agencies to fund our education, our health service," he said.
President Akufo-Addo asked the Vice President of the World Bank to consider the country's transition process during its meetings and discussions with relevant stakeholders in the country.
He thanked the World Bank for being a faithful and reliable friend of Ghana since its independence and noted that his country had so far received $ 11 billion in support from form the bank.
However, he said that Ghana was at the crossroads of its development, seeking to take steps to enable its economy to develop from the export of raw materials to the valuation of its raw materials.
"We are finding new ways to modernize our economy. What you do is what attracts the most value and that's where we focus our attention and energy, "he said.
As part of these efforts, he said that the government is putting in place measures to rapidly develop the country's human capital and equip young people with the necessary skills to transform the country.
"We had 16 rescue programs. It does not mean anything. Discipline in the management of our public finances has not been there. We understand that this is what gives our economy strong macroeconomic fundamentals and allows us to position ourselves well, "he said.
Mr. Ghanem commended the country for its efforts to industrialize the economy and stressed the need for the government to connect to international value chains to reap the full benefits.
He also commended efforts to develop the country's infrastructure and human capital and advised the government to focus more on using technology to improve the quality of education and increase financial inclusion, among other things. other.
