President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reiterated her commitment to fighting the threat posed by partisan militias in the country.

President Akufo-Addo, who has already instructed the two main political parties – NPP and NDC – to meet and find a solution to the problem, told Ghanaians living in Malta that the situation would not be left unresolved.

He said he was determined to ensure that party militias in Ghana were dissolved.

"These are disturbing questions, but questions that I am determined to master. Whatever happens, we will rid our country of some of these phenomena. We do not need it in the new Ghana we are trying to build.

"Let people use force to determine the politics and decision-making of our country. We do not need it, "he said.

The NPP and the NDC have now agreed to allow the National Peace Council to intervene in the long-awaited dialogue after weeks of exchange of letters.

After President Akufo-Addo expressed his surprise at the CND's request to include in all debates political parties, civil society organizations, representatives of the media, representatives of the army, police and other security agencies, as well as all other stakeholders.

In a response to NDC President Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the president said he was appalled that the two parties that have dominated and continue to dominate the country's politics can not meet to discuss issues of governance and political culture in our country without the intervention of third parties, including foreign entities, however well-intentioned they may be.

President Akufo-Addo stated that he hoped that the proposed meeting would proceed without preconditions on both sides, but insisted that the meeting be held as soon as possible.

Regardless of this, it seems that the NPP is willing to have a mediator, as suggested by the NDC. The NDC also asked the National Peace Council to choose a date and place for the dialogue.

NDC members believe dialogue should not be reduced to the usual NDC-NPP process

And while the National Peace Council is preparing to do just that, President Akufo-Addo, during his two-day visit to Malta, badured the Ghanaian community that he would not rest until A solution would not be found to the problem of party militia.

Members of these partisan militia groups – the Azoka boys, the Hawks, the Delta forces and invincible forces – among others, are known to have wreaked havoc in the country.

From the seizure of public property to the dismissal of appointed officials until the shooting and badbadination of a man at the NDC office in Kumasi, these partisan militias have repeatedly law.

President Akufo-Addo says that it will not happen anymore.

"We must have a country where decisions are made based on the strength of argumentation and the quality of the presentations made by the different political actors of the state.

"I think that if we all agree that this is the way forward, these unpleasant phenomena that we are witnessing in our country lately will also be under control," added President Akufo-Addo .
