Rev Opuni-Frimpong, Secretary of the Ghana Christian Council
The country's religious leaders are on red alert to thwart any attempts by political parties to use self-defense groups in the 2020 general elections.
The gesture is to ensure that Ghanaians exercise their right to vote during elections without fear or intimidation.
The former general secretary of Ghana's Christian Council, Pastor Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, during the morning program Adom FM, Dwaso Nsem, said Friday that they would embark on a mbadive protest if the two main political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) do not dissolve their self defense groups.
He lamented that these two political parties act as angles when they are in opposition, but behave abnormally when they are in power.
"What nuclear power plants were complaining about yesterday, the NDC was complaining today and that augurs badly for Ghana's democracy," said Opuni Frimpong.
The former secretary general of the Christian Council said that the Pentecostal and Charismatic Council of Ghana (GPCC) had issued a three-month ultimatum to political parties to dissolve all self-defense groups or face a national demonstration.
"We will manifest in our cbadock because when there is violence, people will go to the church, so we owe it to our members to protect them. Democracy must work in freedom less intimidation, "he added.
Reverend Opuni-Frimpong urged Ghanaians to reject any political party that does not ban self-defense groups.
