We will support NMIMR Covid-19 test tampering investigations – GHS

Ghana Health Service (GHS) public health director Dr Franklin Asiedu-Bokoe said the service will support the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) to investigate the alleged falsification of COVID-19 test results .

He said the Service was monitoring the development and would allow the Institute to conduct its investigations to confirm the validity of the certificate of COVID-19 test results posted on social media.

The public health director said that the GHS would however assist the Institute by reviewing the records of Kotoka International Airport to see if the name displayed on the certification of the alleged NMIMR results went through the system and would verify its initial results. .

“From what I know, it will be very difficult to buy such a certificate in Ghana unless you forge it,” he said.

Mr Asiedu-Bokoe described the allegation as a revelation to everyone and said it was important for the Institute to look at its systems.

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (MIMR) said on Sunday it had opened investigations into the alleged falsification of COVID-19 test results at the Institute, following reports on social media claiming protocol violations COVID-19 test.

The Institute, in a statement released by Professor Abraham Kwabena Anang, director of the NMIMR, assured that the allegation was treated with “seriousness”.

The statement said that in addition to the Institute’s internal investigations, external investigations would be conducted by National Security, which was in discussion with the coordinator of the national network of COVID-19 testing laboratories.
