Zimbabwe's President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, tweeted about ongoing relief efforts in the devastated southeast of the country after Hurricane Idai.

He praised Zimbabweans for their contribution to relief, especially in the storm-ridden town of Chimanimani.

"We have put in place a 19-point plan to help affected communities, intensify the search for missing persons and provide food aid, free medical services, temporary shelter and clean water while fighting against epidemics, by restoring social services and relocating institutions "he tweeted.

According to officials, at least 259 people have died and 217 people are missing in Zimbabwe. About 200,000 others were affected.

Mr. Mnangagwa said Saturday and Sunday days of national mourning:

"I have declared Saturday and Sunday days of national mourning to pay tribute to those we lost last week and support the wounded, the displaced, the missing, and the mourners." Leave the prayers and support from a loving nation comforting those who need it "
