Commander of the flags, Commodore Osei Kuffuor
Western Naval Command called on the new Navy Chief of Staff to help him meet the many challenges the command has faced.
The commander of the general officer, Commodore Osei Kuffuor, identified the problems of accommodation, transportation and maritime defense among the difficulties that hinder the smooth running of the tasks at the naval base.
He said this at an information session with the new Navy Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, at the Sekondi Naval Base.
Commodore Osei Kuffour said the Western Naval Command (WNC) structures were all dilapidated and needed to be renovated.
He pointed out that the state of the accommodation structures made it impossible to accommodate staff officers and recruits.
Commodore Osei Kuffour, however, said the command was planning to renovate old buildings such as Caprice housing in Accra and Otu to accommodate more officers.
He indicated that most of the Navy land had been invaded by intruders because of the lack of proper documentation and pointed out that it was a major challenge for the commandment.
He suggested that efforts had been made to secure all available marine lands by fencing the property to prevent the invaders from gaining control.
He added that inadequate transportation had hindered the performance of their tasks and therefore called on the government and other legal entities to badist them in their efforts to raise funds for projects .
The new Navy Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, is committed to doing his best to meet all the listed challenges.
He added that the president would order new vehicles on February 13, 2019, which would help solve some of the transportation issues facing the command.
The new Chief of the Navy has made his first visit to Western Naval Command to familiarize himself with the activities of the base, as well as to engage with civilian personnel and employees to know the main concerns of the command.
