National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer John Mahama described the government's decision to stop providing free fertilizer to cocoa farmers as a means of malignancy, thus allowing them to expire and decay.

"I am very sad for our cocoa farmers," said President Mahama, adding that "we had good plans and we started to implement good policies for the cocoa sector".

He spoke during an interaction with cocoa farmers and Enchi residents of Aowin district, in the North West region.

According to the former president, the provision of fertilizer, seedlings and free inputs to cocoa farmers has resulted in an increase in the annual yield of cocoa.

"When we started distributing free fertilizer, it was because we understood that it would help improve performance. During the 2016/17 crop year, we recorded 950,000 tonnes … I do not understand why the government will decide to stop these activities and sell the fertilizer to the farmers … In fact, it is a bad thing to leave fertilizers in warehouses because farmers can not and will not buy them, and throw them after they expire, "he lamented.

President Mahama, who is on a two-day tour of the Northwest region, badured people that with his continued support, the NDC will win the 2020 elections and resume the implementation of its policies and initiatives. favorable to the citizens.

He acknowledged the support of the people of Enchi and the Aowin constituency to constantly vote for the NDC, baduring them that all projects agreed by the Akufo-Addo government will be resumed and that new projects will be added when he wins the 2020 elections.

Many road projects in cocoa production areas financed by the Ghana Cocoa Board have all been stopped. The roads are expected to be completed in 2017, and are now in deplorable states.

"The road between Elubo and Enchi was under contract and we entrusted it to two contractors so that they could be completed sooner. They should have been finished already, but thanks to the nuclear plant, this road is worse now than when we started working there. "

The NDC flag bearer also took the opportunity to welcome to the NDC a number of NPP supporters who announced their defection to the NDC, asking them to join members of Aowin's constituency for the NDC. campaign for the party to win and bring relief to the people.
