We, the Young Volunteers of the nonprofit Action Movement, express our disappointment at President Akufo Addo’s attempt to shamefully ask the Ghanaians to help him build a cathedral that he personally promised to God when he needed power.
What does the Bible say in Numbers 30: 2? He says that if a man makes a vow to the Lord, or takes an oath to be bound by an oath, he will not break his word. He will do according to whatever comes out of his mouth.
In a recent public event, President Akufo-Addo said the construction of the cathedral was the fulfillment of a promise he made to God in the run-up to the 2016 general election to the glory of God if he won the presidency.
What has changed now for Nana Addo through Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta passionately appealed to Ghanaians to help build the proposed National Cathedral by donating GH 100.00 per month.
It has been alleged that the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana has decided to reimburse the state for all allowances paid into her personal coffers from 2017 to date. A cumulative amount of GH 899,097.84.
We therefore advise the president to use said money to build the national cathedral that he had promised to build for God rather than shamefully asking Ghanaians to donate monthly 100.00 GH each as stated by the minister. of Finance to support the construction of the National Cathedral amid numerous economic challenges.
Again, Ken Ofori-Atta said _ “if we do not build a national cathedral, the stones will rise up and do it. _ Why appeal to the Ghanaians in the first place when he knew the stones could rise and to build a cathedral is an insult to the good people of Ghana.
So we ask him these questions for quick answers:
1. Did the Ghanaians promise to build a national cathedral for God or was this Nana Addo’s personal promise?
2. When did the personal promise become a public appeal?
3. You have increased the salaries of civil servants by 4%, and yet you ask them for help?
4. Is this a broken promise or disobedience?
5. Isn’t that a misplaced priority.
We hereby advise the Speaker to accede to his ruling and come back.
