HBO was ultra-secret about the last season of its hit fantasy series Game of thronesIt is not surprising that this new batch of photos does not reveal much that Jon, Dany, Arya, Tyrion and the rest of the gang have to do. But there may be a little clue about what's going to happen that's hidden from view. Look at the new photos below.
Game of Thrones Season 8 Photos
These photos are somehow Westerosi's equivalent of glamorous images of Olan Mills, almost all of them being mere medium shots against generic backgrounds. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is back in Winterfell for the first time since the first season and Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) seems to have exchanged his Lannister armor for something more like the northerners, which makes sense considering that he basically changed sides to fight alongside Jon and Dany while the White Walkers threaten the kingdom.
But even their faces do not tell us much about these photos: the only characters who seem to break with their default expressions are Sam Tarly (John Bradley), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jaime, who all seem a little happier than usual. Of course, some of them may have slightly changed their costumes, but this is the usual practice for a new season of The Thrones.
So what's the problem? What can we learn here? Well, I think it's interesting to note that the only full body shot here is that of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), the disturbed queen who currently sits on the iron throne. In the fifth episode of the previous season, Cersei revealed to Jaime that she was pregnant with her child and since then, fans have wondered if this pregnancy is real or it only happens that from one more case of Cersei. I'm not ready yet to make big proclamations, but Cersei's position on the picture above could to be read as she perhaps even to be pregnant – even if the idea of giving birth to a healthy baby this season and to find her happy family seems about as likely as Zombie Hodor's during the final battle between White Walkers and humans of the battlefield. Cersei lost his footing after the loss of his three children and his soul is so full of darkness that nothing can fill this hole.
The eighth and final season of Game of thrones is put first on HBO on April 14, 2019.
