If you have been on the Internet in recent days, whether on Twitter, Tumblr or Reddit, you have probably already seen a Shaggy meme. Specifically, a meme about Shaggy being a kind of almighty who can own his co-stars, defeat any powerful opponent and alter the fabric of space-time. These were probably words added to a behind-the-scenes interview of the cast of the film Scooby Doo, which was shooting live, and which spoke of the ultimate power of Shaggy.
Powerful Shaggy even caught the attention of Matthew Lillard, who played Shaggy in animated films and took over the role of dubber when Shaggy's first actor retired in 2009.
But what seems to be a sudden influx of Shaggy memes, starting from nowhere and exploding to the point that the man behind Shaggy himself is beginning to realize it, actually represents a slow accumulation of Shaggy memes that lead to to something beautiful. This is the story of a stuffed meme and insular catching fire for a majority audience.
Let's go back to the beginning.
A 2011 film titled Scooby Doo! Legend of the Phantosaurus Featured a scene where, under the influence of hypnosis, Shaggy beats a whole gang of bikers in a restaurant. In 2017, YouTube's user, Midya, juxtaposed this clip with Ultra Instinct's music of Super Dragon Ball. Yet Shaggy's idea of being almighty has begun to lodge itself in the minds of the profound Internet inhabitants.
In April 2018, another competitor appeared. An all-powerful and eye-catching supervillain, the most powerful in the universe, eventually decimated half of the universe into non-existence. Finally – an enemy worthy of Shaggy.
The idea of Shaggy beat Thanos in Avengers: war in the infinite bounced on some pockets of Reddit, Tumblr and Twitter. While the Original drawing by Thanos Shaggy Fighter accumulated a lot of tastes, the following posts have just done right. Although it was never big enough to be considered a virus, the idea of defeating Thanos by Shaggy lasted long enough.

Super powerful Shaggy started catching more virality two months ago, with a Reddit article on r / bossfights starring Shaggy reaching about 3,100 positive votes. A few more articles about Reddit and 4chan about the all-powerful Shaggy started circulating, but I think what really contributed to the mbadive proliferation of the same Shaggy was a tweet, which was using the same already Sasuke trend.
Reddit and Tumblr are circulating without ever connecting to other social platforms, so it is possible that Powerful Shaggy could have stayed in the depths of Reddit without the GnarlyBuster on Twitter, who brought this niche meme to the general public. Those who did not know him were intrigued, those who knew him claimed their own credibility on the Internet.

The subreddit r / BadAssShaggy was created on January 17th and started to raise memes of all kinds. There is also a petition to include Powerful Shaggy in Mortal Kombat 11. While r / BadAssShaggy uses Shaggy more to fight other powerful beings, the Tumblr tag contains mainly screenshots of the cast, edits of other memes and occasional disoriented casuals (also this one referring to the Polygon Unraveled series). Meanwhile, Twitter has mostly seen screenshot footage and is currently obsessed with the fact that Matthew Lillard, the voice and body of Shaggy himself, has manifested and fully endorsed Powerful Shaggy.
Thus, the story of Powerful Shaggy reflects the rise of his subject: first increase of power in a field (Shaggy is the most powerful being of Dragon Ball, Shaggy as a subject of communities of smaller memes), then gaining popularity (Shaggy Shaggy can defeat Thanos, Shaggy becoming more and more common), until Shaggy's power is finally transcended into something all-powerful and devouring (Shaggy as be divine who influenced real action movies; Shaggy memes exploding through Reddit, Tumblr and Twitter alike).
