Manchester United told Inter Milan: Pay us £ 75 million or forget to sign Romelu Lukaku.
The two clubs met on Thursday to sign an agreement with Antonio Conte, who is desperate to engage the Belgian striker.
United wants to get his money back and remains loyal to Lukaku's former club, Everton, for £ 5 million.
Inter sports director Piero Ausilio confirmed the discussions between the two clubs. The offer so far from Italians is a loan with a purchase obligation of £ 65 million.
