Nowadays, we know that Gwyneth Paltrow is much more than an actress. She runs a large company, Goop, and seems to show up more at promotional events than red carpets. Yet she will still be Pepper Potts, wife of Tony Stark and head of Stark Industries, in the Marvel Film Universe. Here is an overview of his appearances in MCU and a glimpse of the future of Paltrow.
Paltrow started as an actress
You may not know it, but Paltrow is a Hollywood heritage. Her mother, Blythe Danner, is an Emmy Award-winning actress and her father, Bruce Paltrow, was a director. Paltrow started playing in the early 90's and started playing his roles in such films as Emma and Shakespeare in love, the latter earned him an Oscar.
Paltrow continued to act throughout the 2000s. She played in The Royal Tenenbaums, Shallow room, and View from the top. Paltrow also had a recurring role in the TV show Joy, playing Holly Holliday, substitute teacher, which also allowed her to show her vocal skills.
His role as Pepper Potts began in Iron Man
Paltrow was chosen as Pepper Potts, Tony Stark's badistant, in Iron Man. This is the movie that launched the MCU. Pepper and Tony have chemistry, but in the end, she serves as his confidant and helps him stay on track. In The Iron Man 2she is promoted to CEO and she and Tony are a couple.
Iron Man 3 gives Paltrow some of his most exciting work to date in the MCU. Pepper can finally become a hero herself, thanks to Killian's Extremis technology. It's a beautiful end to the bow of his character across the franchise.

Paltrow has cameos in some other Marvel movies. She shows herself in The Avengers, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: war in the infinite, and Avengers: End of the game. His absence in other films is explained by Tony's explanation that they broke up for a time. But the timeline can be a little confusing for viewers – and, ultimately, for the actors as well.
Appearing in Jon Favreau's cooking program (Favreau is the director of Iron Man and plays the role of Happy Hogan in several Marvel films), Paltrow discovers that she is in Back home. While this is laughable for fans, the actors have shot several recent movies back to back or even simultaneously. It is difficult to determine what you do when you are with the same people.
That's why people think it's happening
End of Game saw Pepper in Stark costume, this time under the name of Rescue, his character drawn comics. Pepper arrives at the battle against Thanos and fights alongside the rest of the Avengers. And of course, she's here when Tony dies.
Many might think that Pepper will be the new Iron Man, but that does not seem to be the case. In an interview with Variety, Paltrow said, "I feel a little old to wear a suit and everything else at this point." She added, "Of course, if they said: day ?, I'll always be there if they need me.
The future could involve another Stark instead
It seems that we can still have a Pepper cameo in the future, but for Paltrow who enters the MCU full-time, it's impossible. However, he remains a member of the family who could wear the costume. Morgan Stark, the daughter of Tony and Pepper, showed an affinity for his father's technology. Hopefully we will see it take over in the years to come.
