What Solskjaer said when asked what Bailly's injury meant for Man Utd's Harry Maguire | Football | sport

That's what Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes.

Bailly had to be kidnapped in Shanghai in United's 2-1 win over Tottenham on Thursday.

The Ivorian central defender was engaged at half-time during the preparatory meeting, but was abducted ten minutes later after suffering a knee injury.

Bailly was one of two central United defenders for next season, but after Solskjaer admitted that the injury "did not look good", it now seems unlikely he is present at the beginning of the campaign.

This could lead Old Trafford leaders to increase their Leicester Maguire signature offer, after several offers were rejected.

Although Solskjaer has repeated that he was confident in the depth of his team, he has enough depth.

"We had six central defenders in rotation – and they all worked well," he said at a press conference.

"Phil Jones played in the first three games, so it was his turn to rest today.

"Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling took their chance and seemed really safe at the back.

"But of course, you're never happy when you hurt yourself. Hope this is not so bad for Eric.

Bailly had an unfortunate story with injuries, having missed the Africa Cup of Nations because of a problem he had met in April.

And Solskjaer hinted that he would be on the verge of doing another spell.

"It's never nice to get hurt," he added.

"It's not worth it when you lose one, he got his knee but we do not know how bad it is.

"We have to go back to Manchester and do the scan.

"Let's hope the best."
