What would a successful 2019/20 season look like for Chelsea and Roman Abramovich

The 2018/19 campaign is over and dusted. Now is the time to focus on what Chelsea will want to accomplish in the 2019/20 season.

The Blues finished last season in third place in the Premier League, qualifying for the Champions League and also ended up with the 16th trophy of Roman Abramovich's reign in west London.

The success of the Europa League has been the culmination of a lot of hard work for the Blues. He certainly typed in the boxboards of what had become a sawtooth season in the first year of Maurizio Sarri as the club's head coach.

There will probably be another summer of change for the Blues. Sarri should leave Stamford Bridge to return to Serie A and join Juventus.

So, if there is a new boss at the helm, then what would be a successful campaign for the Blues?

first league

Manchester City and Liverpool were the most outstanding teams in the competition as they pioneered their way to the top two, while City almost clinched the title of one point.

But the gap with the other teams was huge, with Chelsea 26 points behind City, who did not even threaten to win the Premier League title.

With the prohibition of transfers still imminent and greater uncertainty behind the scenes as to who will be responsible for the club, so there is little expectation that the Blues can again fight for the title.

You think that the first two will only strengthen, while Manchester United certainly can not be as bad as they were in the 2018/19 campaign.

Meanwhile, Arsenal could grow after a year of Unai Emery, while Mauricio Pochettino is also in doubt and that it will remain another year in Tottenham Hotspur.

It will be another big challenge to figure in the top four, but finishing third and narrowing the gap between the top two will surely be a positive move.

Champions League

After a year in Europa League, the Blues are back among the best clubs in Europe and will compete in the Champions League.

Of course, this means more intensity in the group stages against the opponents and the Blues can not just cross.

By winning the Europa League, that means Chelsea is in the front row for the draw at the end of August, which will give them a little easier for the round of 16.

This must be a minimum requirement for the Blues, to pbad the group stage and qualify for the last 16, without falling back into the Europa League.

From there, everything can happen in turn. But taking the final step and qualifying for the quarter-finals would show at least some progress.

FA Cup

Still the most prestigious national cup competition in the world, clubs starting their qualifications for the tournament in July.

The Blues also have a proud history of the FA Cup. They won it a total of eight times, the last time in 2018. They did not manage to get back on that momentum last season with a loss against Manchester United.

But Chelsea must continue to progress and win trophies every season. The FA Cup is perhaps the best way to get silverware again.

Succeeding in the competition will of course mean winning the tournament, but reaching the final must be something new again.

It is the expectation of a club like Chelsea and the winning trophies must be in the foreground.

Ligue's cup

The League Cup can be a tough competition and, to be fair to Sarri last season, they had a very difficult race to get to Wembley.

Against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and then Manchester City showed how difficult it could be, the Blues reaching the final but tilting against the Premier League champions on penalties.

Next season, there is no doubt that this will be the fourth most important tournament for all officials.

It will be a good opportunity to defeat the young if the draw is close to their heart. If Chelsea is eliminated from the competition in the first few rounds, it will not have too much impact for the rest of the season.
