It's not easy to imagine a better combination between Carmen Sandiego and Google Earth in Where in the World, so it's a little surprising that the idea has not been put into practice before. To be fair, Carmen Sandiego as a character and video game had her hay day in the 90s, but now that there is a new show on Netflix, we are happy to have more games.
If you do not know Carmen Sandiego, she is a detective responsible for catching thieves who tend to have a lot of extra money to fly around the world trying to escape. It's an educational game designed to help kids learn geography and learn new things about different countries. As a Carmen, you visit sites of interest in different cities to interview locals about the thief you are trying to catch. The clues you collect will help you to profile the suspect – what you need to get an appropriate arrest warrant – but you will need to know different countries to be able to follow the clues until the next destination.
Google announces a series of missions in Google Earth, the first of which is called The Crown Jewels Caper. It is available on the web as well as in Google Earth apps for iOS and Android. To launch the game, Google said you need to keep an eye on a Pegman special edition icon in Google Earth.
