Dr. Owen Laws Kaluwa, National Representative for Global Health
World Health Organization (WHO), congratulated the government for strengthening primary health
Primary health care through the concept of planning and community health services (CHPS).

government, partners and all stakeholders to continue to support the MAP and
make them functional so that their full potential for improving health and
well-being is achieved, "he said.
Dr. Kaluwa gave the
Citation in his speech on the commemoration of World Health Day 2019
Monday in Accra on the theme: "Universal health coverage: all
Everywhere, "emphasizing the crucial role of PHC.
He said the theme
aligned with the WHO's number one goal, which was to make sure that everyone
timely access to quality health services in the heart of the
community where they lived without experiencing financial difficulties.
He acknowledged that
overall, even though countries were progressing well towards the achievement of
CHU, millions of people still do not have access to health care and about half of
the figure did not receive the health services they needed.
He noted that "about
100 million people have been pushed into extreme poverty every year because of
pocket spending on health, "while millions more have been forced to choose between
health care and other necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.
Dr. Kaluwa said to move
implementation of UHC required the strengthening of the health system to
proposed by the 2030 Agenda, which required the integration of good practices
stewardship, adequate funding, qualified and motivated health staff,
access to quality drugs and health products, functional health information
systems and service delivery focused on people.
He stressed that

He said that primary health care was
determinants of health in a broad sense and focused on comprehensive development and
interrelated aspects of physical, mental and social health and well-being,
while ensuring that the health needs of the population are met through
promotional, protective, preventive, curative and rehabilitative care through
the course of life.
The country
Representative said that this was the main reason why WHO was focusing on UHC as a
theme of the 2019 celebrations, to remind world leaders of the urgency of the situation
the health needs of the population and to encourage them to play their role in
realization of the CSU.
He urged Ghanaians to
take the necessary steps and steps as individuals to adopt lifestyles and
behaviors that would ensure a healthy life.
Dr. Kaluwa urged
government to make health for all a reality by investing more in quality,
accessible PHC, advocate for patients' rights and educate them to stay healthy.
Mr Gabriel Bernaku,
National President of the Coalition of Non-Governmental Health Organizations
called for greater recognition of the role of civil society.
He urged the
government to go beyond community collaborations to the partnership movement with
Civil society must be able to contribute effectively to UHC.
