Whooping cough at Bryant Middle School, 3 students diagnosed

BRYANT, Arkansas – Three students at Bryant College have been diagnosed with whooping cough, district officials said.

A post on the district Facebook page on Tuesday morning provided parents with the following information:

PARENTS: Three students from the Bryant Middle School were diagnosed with pertussis. Pertussis is a highly contagious disease of the respiratory tract caused by a bacterium called Bordetella pertussis.

The health of our students is of the utmost importance to us. Our school nurses have contacted the Arkansas Department of Health to monitor sick students as well as those likely to have been in close contact with students in clbad, in school bus or in school. other common areas of the school.

School nurses contacted parents of students who may have been exposed to the disease. If you have not heard of the school nurse by letter or telephone, your child has NOT been identified as a student within sight of sick students. It is always best to observe your child for any sign or symptom of whooping cough and, if so, contact your doctor.
