Several iconic factions in WWE history have shaped the business and provided a platform for new talent to rise to the top. The Nation of Domination is one of those legendary stables that propelled The Rock to superstar rank. At the height of their powers, NOD was a force to be reckoned with, and there was a time when Ahmed Johnson was also part of the faction.
The first African-American Intercontinental Champion in WWE history was a special guest on SK Wrestling’s UnSKripted with Dr Chris Featherstone.
Johnson, who initially argued with NOD and later joined the group, was asked about his time in the stable and why Vince McMahon would take him out.
Johnson explained that the Nation of Domination had too many powers, and Vince McMahon believed the members of the NOD seemed overpowered as a collective.
The former WWE superstar recalled a behind-the-scenes conversation he had with Vince McMahon when the boss informed the faction of his withdrawal. Vince McMahon felt that WWE had no other group that could beat NOD if the members got together for a fight.
Johnson revealed the following:
“It was good, but it was just too many plants in a stack, you know what I’m saying. It was too much. Like Vince said, Vince called us all into the office, and he said: ‘Okay, he said, maybe I should take you out of the Nation. And we were like’ Why? ‘He said,’ Because no one is going to believe you, Farooq, Mark Henry and The Rock can’t all be beaten at the same time Who’s going to beat that team over there?
Still not sure why: Ahmed Johnson on why WWE was added to The Nation of Domination
Johnson also surprisingly revealed that he still doesn’t know why WWE added him to Nation of Domination. Johnson was at the peak of his popularity when WWE asked him to switch sides.
“You know what? I still don’t know why he put me in the NationNation. I don’t see any reason why he did because like you said we had a good race like that. was the case, and I’m guessing to try something new. “
The former IC Champion’s career in WWE fell apart after turning on his heels and joining NOD. Injury and fallout with Vince McMahon would lead Johnson to be kicked out of the faction.
Ahmed Johnson was at his honest best during the last UnSKripted with Dr Chris Featherstone, and the veteran opened up about his WWE career, the end of his push, Shawn Michaels retaining wrestlers, and more.
