“Why are we turning speakers into clothing inspectors? – asks Kwaku Azar

The outspoken lawyer Professor Stephen Asare, aka Kwaku Azar, has raised concerns over a UPSA directive to discipline indecently dressed female students.

During the 2021 enrollment at the Accra University of Vocational Studies campus, Vice Chancellor Prof Okoe Amartey urged female students to avoid wearing dresses that “ show skin. ”

“I noticed that some of you have started to wear short skirts all over the place. UPSA is a professional institution and we dress very well. We asked the speakers that if you dress inappropriately, they should remove you from the auditoriums.

“You are not allowed to dress like we have seen you these days. We allowed it last week because we assumed you didn’t know. Now you know, so there shouldn’t be any excuses, ”he warned.

Reacting to the vice-chancellor’s directive, Kwaku Azar said the real issues need to be addressed other than dressing the students.

“Why are we turning speakers into clothing inspectors? Why this obsession with what girls choose to wear? He questioned.

The last time it was the president of the GBA. It is now the UPSA VC that issues a stern directive to female students to refrain from wearing “indecent” outfits or dresses that “show skin”.

The VC also “ordered university professors to dismiss students who come to class dressed indecently.”

Why are we turning speakers into clothing inspectors?
