Kwame Bonsu Kotoko Cotton Sport is fighting for Kwame Bonsu's eligibility

Will Asante Kotoko be excluded from the CAF Confederation Cup for technical reasons? This will be the case if Coton Sport wins a petition sent to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Cameroonian side has sent a seven-page document to the governing body of continental football in an effort to kick Kotoko out of the competition on the basis of alleged crimes by midfielder Kwame Bonsu.

The Kumasi beat Cotton Sport 2-1 on Sunday (5-3 overall) to qualify for the Confederations Cup group stage. However, Coton Sport drew CAF's attention to the fact that Bonsu used different jersey numbers on both legs.

The Cameroonian club says that the name of Bonsu was registered with the jersey 8 in the first leg in Garoua. They then show documents showing that Kotoko had the same player with the number 3 jersey in the second leg.

If this is true, it would be a violation of Article 6.5 of the CAF Confederation Cup Rules.

For their part, Kotoko refuted the allegation, referring to Twitter, where the club's account released an image of the 24-year-old wearing jersey 3, from the first leg to Garoua.

"Coton Sport complains of a player's jersey number and wants to bring it to the attention of CAF," said Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) general secretary, Benjamin Didier Banlock.

Banlock, co-signer of the petition, told Oyerepa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, that he had signed the document simply for duty. "For me, that does not change the fact that we have seen the game and that ends there for me."

"Honestly, you know you do some of your work without being happy to do it, but it's your job. It is a very delicate question so wait for the CAF, it is up to them to decide, but I do not expect any magic from the CAF. "

Kotoko CEO George Amoako categorically rejected the accusations as a ploy to distract the team. "We have followed proper procedures to obtain the release and registration of the player and, therefore, he is eligible to play for us in all officially sanctioned matches."

Kotoko plans to play his first group game in 11 years after being grouped in Group C with Zambian sides Zesco United and Nkana FC, as well as Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan.
