Former Dutch midfielder Ruud Gullit believes that Manchester United's selection chances on Matthijs de Ligt are very slim.
The Ajax defender is one of the most fashionable players in the football world after leading his equally young club to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League, where they eventually lost against Tottenham Hotspur.
Since then, the 19-year-old has been closely tied to many clubs in Europe, including United, but Gullit believes the deal will be highly unlikely as the Manchester-based club will not compete in the Champions League next season.
"In recent days there has been a lot of talk about Manchester United signing De Ligt, but I do not think the odds are so great," the 56-year-old told the De Telegraaf newspaper. "The main reason is that the giants of the Premier League will not participate in the Champions League next season."
Juventus and Barcelona remain in the running to sign the Dutch defender alongside Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
