Long before meeting Princess Diana, Prince Charles met Camilla Parker Bowles. The increasingly tense relationship between the Prince of Wales and the new Duchess of Cornwall resulted in her marriage to the princess, while he and Camilla had a romantic relationship for years. This finally spelled the death knell for the union of Diana and Charles and the separation of the two before being divorced in 1996.
Although the behavior of Charles and Camilla greatly annoys the public, the friends and family of his mistress are extremely unhappy with the gesture he committed against the prince. This is why members of Camilla's circle called the future king "absolute pig".
When Charles and Camilla started their relationship
Prince Charles and Camilla were introduced in the early 70's and immediately get along. They began to see each other but separated when Charles went to the Royal Navy. Camilla then came in contact with her former flame, Andrew Parker Bowles, and they tied the knot in 1973.
The prince would have been devastated after learning that Camilla had become hitched. However, he was still in touch with her. And in 1986, five years after walking in the alley with Diana, both spouses revived their love story though they were still married at the time.
Camilla's friends called Charles "an absolute pig"
In 1994, after the split between Prince and Diana, Charles interviewed British journalist Jonathan Dimbleby for the documentary Charles: The private man, the public role. During this interview, the Prince of Wales admitted that he had been unfaithful to his first wife by maintaining an affair with Camilla.
The prince's admission would have enraged Camilla's friends and family. In his biography The Duchess: the unpublished story, Penny Juror detailed their reactions to the revelation of the bomb.
"Friends at the time said that Camilla had begged the prince not to speak to Dimbleby, but that was not true, although it is true to say that she was angry at him, "said Juror. She added that Camilla's friends had said, "Frankly, Charles behaved like an absolute pig and propelled Camilla inside. She has done absolutely nothing to deserve this after all the support she has given her over the years, through difficult times. "
Camilla's brother-in-law at the time, Simon Parker Bowles, was also upset and weighed on Charles's choice to interview for a sitting interview, calling this choice "fake and very hurtful".
The juror wrote that "Charles: the private man, the public role, which lasted two and a half hours and was seen by 14 million viewers, was directly responsible for Andrew Camilla 's divorce, Diana' s devastating interview in Panorama – watched by 23 million viewers – and of his divorce from the Prince of Wales. Because in just three minutes, on two and a half hours of good works, the prince has acknowledged his adultery "
Why Camilla's father did not like Charles
Another person who was not happy with Charles after the publication of this case was Camilla's father, Bruce Shand. He was very fond of his daughter's first husband too, so he was not happy and had a strong opinion of the prince.
According to the Guardian, Shand called for a private meeting with the king in which he accused the heir of "ruining the life of his daughter". Charles would have been left in tears.
Finally, Shand saw how happy the prince and his daughter were and loved Charles. He later praised the Duke of Cornwall and declared that he would "make a perfect king".
Shand died of cancer in 2006.
