MCU officials are (allegedly) on the verge of revealing its next edition at San Diego Comic-Con. However, we know a little about what will happen. Jim Starlin co-created many Marvel characters
Starlin is a legend of Marvel Comics. One of his popular characters today is none other than Thanos the Mad Titan. Starlin is surprised by the attention the villain has had from fans in recent years.
In addition, Starlin created Captain Marvel, but not as we know it today. His Captain Marvel was the male version of the character before Carol Danvers came on the scene.
He is a supporter of diversity in comics
Starlin was told that one of his first Captain Marvel comics was "a preaching". "I realized that you can get a totally different approach to a story if you put it somewhere else." He explained, giving the example of a story are both in black and white, he was less likely to upset people than a story on Earth with the races we identify with.
"If you delete it a bit, you can think about it without having nerve endings," Starlin said of the inherent racism that is often missing in comics. In other words, people who have prejudices can come together to get these acceptance messages when they relate to spatial characters.
That's why he did not work very long on Master of Kung Fu.
The moderator says working on Shang-Chi was "a bit of a departure" from Starlin's usual work. Starlin remembers Fu Man Chu, the villain who plays on all kinds of negative Asian stereotypes. And that's the reason I gave up Shang Chi after just three numbers. "
While creating the Shang Chi character, he says he worked with Stan Lee on design. "He did not like any of the straight Asian faces I had drawn," Starlin said. "He liked the face on the suit which was a generic face with a square jaw. And that's where the Eurasian part of Shang-Chi comes from. Because we just could not see that face and say it was strictly Asian.
What do we know about Shang-Chi until there?
Since it is still in pre-production, little is known about the Shang-Chi movie for the moment.
